These are nymphs hatched at the beginning of May
Delightful little creatures that are fascinating pets and relatively hassle free to keep. After 6 or 7 moults they will be about 7cm long and look like they’re wearing spiny armour, they’re not aggressive though and although I presume they’d prefer not to be handled they are actually easy to pick up once they’ve matured a little, in this nymph stage it’s best not to handle to prevent injury to them rather use a small paint brush to gently lift them. They feed on bramble leaves which are accessible all year round.
